“GEOLOGY OF THE AREA” by Margie Caswell
Margie Caswell is a retired Poudre School District Elementary Teacher who first taught 4th grade geology when the district decided geology was a good fit for Colorado History. She quickly took a geology class, created lessons, and was hired in 1979 to create the elementary level geology teachers and students guide for the district. Now the district uses commercial science kits that weren’t available then. She treasures the rocks and minerals she has collected from her own trips or from her uncle and aunt. Margie was a 1992 Finalist for Colorado Teacher of the Year.
Her PowerPoint presentation will cover the geology you see as you travel from Fort Collins to Livermore to Red Feather Lakes plus up Cherokee Park and Prairie Divide. You will better understand the rock quarry, Owl Canyon Rock Cut, the meeting of the Sedimentary Rocks by Livermore with the Igneous Rocks at the slump behind the Scott Ranch, the Metamorphic Rocks at McNey Hill, the Amythest Mine, and the Diamond Mines.
